Justice Nelda V. Rodriguez was born on February 12, 1954 in Kingsville, Texas. She graduated from Texas A&I University and received her Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law. While attending law school, she interned for the Harris County District Attorney's Office.

In 1981, Justice Rodriguez and her husband formed the law office of Rodriguez and Rodriguez. In 1990, she became Municipal Court Judge for the City of Corpus Christi and in 1992, she became a Title IV-D Court Master. She was elected to the Thirteenth Court of Appeals in 1995.

Justice Rodriguez is a member of the State Bar Foundation, College of the State Bar, Corpus Christi Bar Association, Hidalgo County Bar Association, San Patricio Bar Association, Coastal Bend Women Lawyer's Association, and the Texas State Bar Association. She is also a member of the Communities in Schools Mentor Program, League of Women Voters, Tejano Democrats and Mexican American Democrats. She has served as Parliamentarian and State Delegate for the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas.

Justice Rodriguez is Co- Founder and Director for the Fighting to Rid Gangs in America Foundation and the Operation Satori (Martial Arts program for at risk middle school children).

She is married to Rene Rodriguez and they have two children, Robert and Katie.
